Large breasts cause more problems than most people realize. Along with neck and back pain, you may also struggle with limits on what you can wear and which activities feel comfortable. Breast reduction surgery gives you shapely, proportionate breasts. Dr. Holley specializes in natural-looking results that restore your confidence.

What is Breast Reduction Surgery or Reduction Mammaplasty?

A reduction mammaplasty or breast reduction is a procedure to remove excess breast volume. It also creates a size and shape that suit your body and make you feel comfortable wearing and doing whatever you want. Dr. Holley will customize your breast reduction to give you a size and shape you love. He may also reposition the areolas to a more lifted, natural position.

What to Wear After Breast Reduction Surgery

You cannot move your arms very much right after breast reduction. We recommend having several large, soft shirts that zip or close in the front. Find a few comfortable favorites you can get on and off without lifting your arms or stretching your chest.

Your breasts will have dressings after surgery and may also have a support bra or wrap. Swelling and bruising will start to fade after about a week and usually resolve within about three weeks. Most people can return to work after about a week. Dr. Holley will let you know when you can add activities to your routine.

Am I a Good Candidate for Breast Reduction Surgery?

Good candidates for breast reduction surgery are bothered by their large breasts. You may be a good candidate if your large breasts cause you to experience the following:

  • Back, neck, and shoulder pain
  • Discomfort during physical activities
  • Difficulty finding clothes that fit correctly
  • Stress and anxiety

Ideal candidates for reduction mammaplasty have no significant health problems and reasonable expectations. Dr. Holley does not recommend breast reduction if you plan to breastfeed in the future.
