Each time you smile or frown, facial muscles contract and create creases in your skin. Over time, these creases may still be there when your face relaxes. You can smooth many expression lines and wrinkles with Botox®. This treatment has many uses for facial rejuvenation and much more.

How Does Botox® Work?

Botox® is a neuromodulator that uses botulinum toxin to smooth lines and wrinkles. Botox® injections work by relaxing the facial muscles that create wrinkles. Botulinum toxin controls signals from facial nerves to the targeted muscles, causing them to stop contracting. As a result, your skin relaxes and wrinkles disappear. Botox® injections offer non-surgical facial rejuvenation without recovery time.

What Can Botox® Treat?

Many people know about the cosmetic benefits of Botox®, but many other people receive it for its medical benefits. Botox® treats aesthetic concerns, including:

  • Crow’s feet (lines at the corners of the eyes)
  • Horizontal forehead lines
  • Vertical lines between the brows (glabellar lines or the 11s)

Doctors also use Botox® to treat medical conditions, including:

  • Migraines
  • Eye muscle problems
  • Hyperhidrosis
  • Eyelid spasms
  • Cervical dystonia (a painful neck disorder)

Botox® was initially developed for medical purposes, making it one of the most widely researched and tested cosmetic products available. It has been FDA-approved for over two decades. Since becoming available for aesthetic use, its name has become synonymous with neuromodulators and facial rejuvenation.

How Long Do Botox® Injections Last?

You may notice your lines and wrinkles become smoother within a few days of treatment. Full Botox® results appear within seven to ten days. Most people can expect their results to last three to four months. People who have been getting Botox® for a while may find that their results last longer. You can prolong your results by using quality skincare products and sun protection.

Is There Any Downtime After Botox®?

Botox® injections take ten to fifteen minutes, and there is no downtime afterward. You can return to work or your other activities immediately. We recommend avoiding rubbing your face or lying down for four hours post-treatment. You should also wait 24 hours to resume your exercise routine and several days before having any other facial treatment.

Am I a Good Candidate for Botox®?

Almost anyone can be a good candidate for Botox®. While it is usually used to address moderate to severe lines and wrinkles, you can have Botox® at almost any age to prevent developing lines from worsening. You should not have Botox® if you are pregnant, have an infection in the treatment area, or have certain medical conditions.
