One of the hallmarks of age is drooping. Many people find that skin laxity leaves them with jowls, loose skin, droopy eyelids, and often, breasts that aren’t as perky as they once were. When it comes to droopy breasts, a breast lift is the tried and true solution.

What is a Breast Lift?

Also known as mastopexy, a breast lift restores sagging breasts to a more youthful position. The breasts often sag and appear deflated after breastfeeding or as the natural result of aging. Some women also have low-set breasts to begin with. A breast lift with Dr. Holley can help you feel confident in a more youthful figure with firm, perky breasts.

How Does a Breast Lift Work?

Dr. Holley tailors every mastopexy procedure to the patient’s unique needs and goals. He offers breast lifts with a circumareolar, lollipop, or anchor incisions. A circumareolar technique is best for patients with mild sagging and offers minimal scarring. A lollipop incision around the areola and down the breast may be best for women with more moderate sagging. Significant breast sagging may require an anchor incision.

Dr. Holley will help you determine the best incision technique during a detailed consultation. Your breast lift procedure will be performed under general anesthesia. Dr. Holley will remove excess skin and reshape the breast tissue, lifting it to a more youthful position on the breast wall. A breast lift can also be combined with breast augmentation or breast reduction for optimal results.

What to Expect After a Breast Lift

You will be sent home after your surgery in a surgical bra, which you must wear for several weeks to promote healing. Bruising, swelling, and discomfort in the breasts are normal. Dr. Holley will give you aftercare instructions and prescribe pain medication if needed. The majority of side effects and discomfort fade in a few days. Most patients resume work after a week and exercise in about a month.

It takes a few months for the swelling to subside fully and for your breasts to settle into their new position. Though improvements are visible immediately after mastopexy, it may take approximately six months to see your final results.

Is a Breast Lift Permanent?

A breast lift repositions the breast tissue for lasting results. The procedure permanently lifts your breasts; however, it does not stop them from continuing to age. Most women enjoy the benefits of a breast lift for several years. Gravity will eventually cause your breasts to sag again. A healthy lifestyle, wearing well-fitted bras, and avoiding sun exposure can help maintain your results.

Am I a Good Candidate for a Breast Lift?

Many women who are bothered by low, sagging breasts can benefit from a breast lift. Ideal candidates should be done having children and a healthy weight. Future pregnancies or breastfeeding could undo your results, as can weight fluctuations.
