What is Botox®?

Botox® is the brand name for an injectable that utilizes botulinum toxin type A. This chemical can be used to help you reduce the appearance of crow’s feet, forehead lines, and frown lines, enabling you to achieve a more radiant and useful appearance.

This treatment is very effective for the treatment of dynamic wrinkles. Dynamic wrinkles are wrinkles that have developed because of your facial muscles contracting on a repeated basis. Expressions like smiling, frowning, and squinting can result in the skin creasing and folding. After muscle contractions happen year after year, this can cause these creases to remain, turning into dynamic wrinkles.

When Botox® is injected into the facial muscles, it is placed to specifically target dynamic wrinkles. Botox® works by lowering your muscle activity. As the muscles relax, the skin that overlies it will become smoother. This will cause the wrinkles to soften gradually in the days that come after your treatment.

Is Botox® Permanent?

Botox® is a highly effective treatment, but it is imperative to note that it is not permanent. You will need to have follow-up treatments. Injections tend to last anywhere from three to five months.

There are a number of different factors that can impact how long Botox® lasts. This includes your activity level, metabolism, and your age.

As Botox® is temporary, this makes it much more effective and safer when it comes to choosing an anti-aging treatment. This is because it gives you the chance to monitor your aesthetic goals, which may change as time goes in.

With that being said, we do usually advise that your next injections are given while there is still some Botox left within your muscles. The reason for this is because your muscles will still be relaxed, leading to a continuation of results. Of course, this is something that will be discussed with you during your consultation at length.
