What is BOTOX® Cosmetic?
BOTOX® Cosmetic is the brand name for botulinum toxin type A, which is made from a toxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. BOTOX® Cosmetic is designed to temporarily reduce the appearance of frown lines, forehead lines, and crow’s feet.
BOTOX® Cosmetic is a neuromodulator that works by blocking nerve signals to the muscles.
Botulinum toxin is effective for dynamic wrinkles, which are wrinkles that develop due to the repeated contraction of specific facial muscles. Expressions such as squinting, frowning, and smiling, cause the skin to fold and crease. After many years of repeated muscle contractions, these creases remain and develop into dynamic wrinkles.
