Most adult men and women remove hair from some area of the face or body, and none of them enjoy doing it. You can end shaving, waxing, and other annoyances with laser hair removal. This treatment stops hair growth, so you enjoy hair-free, worry-free skin that lasts.

What is Laser Hair Removal?

Laser hair removal is a treatment for stopping hair growth. At West Michigan Plastic Surgery, we offer Forever Bare BBL™ hair removal. This long-lasting method of hair removal requires several sessions to eliminate unwanted hair. However, after treatment, you can enjoy freedom from hair removal hassles, worrying about whether you missed a spot and uncomfortable ingrown hairs.

How Does Laser Hair Removal Work?

Laser hair removal uses a laser wavelength that targets hair follicles. This laser energy affects a pigment called melanin that gives hair its color. When the melanin in your hair roots absorbs the laser energy, it generates heat. The heat deactivates the hair follicle containing the root, stopping its hair growth. The laser energy does not affect skin cells, so treatment has little to no downtime.

How Many Laser Hair Removal Sessions Will I Need?

The number of hair removal sessions you need depends on several factors. The most important factor is how fast your hair follicles go through their life cycles. Each hair follicle spends time in a resting phase with no hair growth. During this time, the laser cannot treat this follicle. A series of treatments ensures each follicle receives treatment.

Most people need six to eight treatments about six weeks apart to see full results. The time between treatments allows dormant follicles to become active so the laser can treat them. Some people and some areas may require more or fewer sessions.

How Should I Get Ready for Laser Hair Removal?

Follow a few preparation steps to minimize the number of sessions you need. Treatment only works if you have active follicles that contain a pigmented hair root. Although you can still shave, you must avoid hair removal methods that pull out the root (waxing, tweezing, threading, etc.). You must also avoid bleaching your hair since this removes the pigment. Finally, avoid sun exposure or artificial tanning before treatment.

What Results Will I See With Laser Hair Removal?

After each treatment, you will see less hair regrowth. Results become more noticeable after three or four sessions. Laser hair removal results are long-lasting, but most people eventually start seeing light hair regrowth. The regrown hairs usually look finer and thinner than before. Many people have yearly maintenance treatments to catch any strays and keep their hair-free confidence.

Am I a Good Candidate for Laser Hair Removal?

Forever Bare BBL™ works safely for most people. Laser hair removal works best on those with a strong contrast between hair and skin color. However, improved technologies can treat lighter hair and darker skin more safely. You should not have a laser hair removal treatment if you have a skin infection or injury in the treatment area.
