What is Rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty, also known as nose job surgery or nose surgery, is a type of surgical procedure that is done to adjust the contour, size, or shape of your nose. The aim of this treatment is to create a nose that fits in perfectly with the rest of your face without the unique character and shape of your nose being compromised.
Types of Rhinoplasty
There are a number of different types of rhinoplasty offered at West Michigan Plastic Surgery, and we will look at the four main ones below:
Open Rhinoplasty
Sometimes referred to as external rhinoplasty, this is performed when a small incision is made on the columella, which is the soft tissue separating your nostrils. This technique gives easy access to the underlying cartilage and bone structure.
Closed Rhinoplasty
Sometimes referred to as endonasal rhinoplasty, this is a type of surgery that is performed by making all of the incisions that are required fully hidden within the nostrils. This creates no visible scarring and it is less invasive.
Functional Rhinoplasty
Sometimes referred to as septoplasty, this is a type of rhinoplasty that has been designed so that functional elements of the nose are corrected, rather than focusing on the appearance of your nose.
Cosmetic Rhinoplasty
Finally, we have cosmetic rhinoplasty. Unlike the former example, cosmetic rhinoplasty is fully focused on the cosmetic appearance of your nose. This treatment is designed for those who are simply unhappy with the way that their nose looks, and so they want to undergo cosmetic rhinoplasty to feel better about their appearance.
Benefits of Rhinoplasty
There are a number of different benefits that are associated with rhinoplasty. This treatment can help you to achieve the following:
- Widen or narrow the bridge of your nose
- Decrease the size of your nostrils
- Sculpt the shape of the tip of your nose
- Decrease or increase the size of your nose
All of these benefits come together to help you feel more confident in your appearance, and this is something that can flood into other areas of your life as well.
