Collagen induction therapy, commonly known as microneedling, has various forms depending on your skin’s concerns and goals. While all treatments boost collagen production, various types of treatments may provide more dramatic results and target specific concerns. At West Michigan Plastic Surgery, one of the primary microneedling treatments we provide is RF microneedling with Morpheus8

What is RF Microneedling?

RF Microneedling is a skin rejuvenation treatment to enhance the natural effects of microneedling. The radiofrequency energy penetrates deeper into the skin for more dramatic collagen production. While improving the quality of your skin, the Morpheus8 also breaks apart fat in the subcutaneous layers for subtle contouring.

Skin concerns that RF microneedling treats include uneven skin texture, large pores, acne scars, skin laxity, fine lines and wrinkles, and stretch marks. You may receive treatment nearly anywhere on the body, such as the abdomen or thighs, but the most common treatment areas are the face and neck.

How Many RF Microneedling Treatments Should I Get?

At West Michigan Plastic Surgery, we recommend a series of treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart for optimal results for your RF microneedling treatments. Most patients only require 4-6 treatments to see desired results.

After your final treatment, your results will last up to 6-12 months before needing any maintenance treatments. The long-lasting effects of your body’s natural collagen production make RF microneedling a highly effective facial treatment.

How Long is Recovery from RF Microneedling?

Most patients can resume their usual activities immediately after treatment. Some side effects may include redness and sensitivity similar to a sunburn for a few days. To protect your skin, we recommend avoiding direct sun exposure and using high-quality SPF.

During your recovery, your skin is more absorbent of skincare products. For the best results, we recommend using medical-grade skincare products to boost your skin’s health. You may wear makeup the day after your treatment, but please remember that your skin is more sensitive, and products will penetrate more deeply than usual.

Am I a Good Candidate for RF Microneedling?

Most patients concerned with their skin’s overall health are good candidates for RF microneedling. The best candidates are in good overall health and have realistic expectations.

We do not recommend RF microneedling if you have an active cold sore, skin infections, moderate to severe skin disease, are receiving chemotherapy, are pregnant, or have a history of keloid scarring.
