PRP Injections

In the past decade, platelet-rich plasma, or PRP, has grown in popularity in the cosmetic industry. PRP injections are an ideal way to restore your youth using your body’s natural ability to heal and rejuvenate cell growth.

PRP Injections for Facial and Eye Rejuvenation

Platelet-rich plasma, or PRP, is the part of our blood responsible for clotting and healing injuries. Often used in the medical field to speed surgical recovery and aid in recovering from an injury, PRP contains proteins that promote cell growth of tissue, collagen, and hair follicles.

PRP is used to improve the effectiveness of many procedures. For aesthetic rejuvenation, PRP injections are often placed under the eyes, on the cheeks, and/or around the mouth to reduce fine lines and wrinkles. PRP also reduces the effects of facial volume loss and can be an alternative to dermal fillers. It is also used for hair restoration and works to promote the growth of your own hair naturally.

Patients can address under-eye bags, hair loss, and enhance facial contours with this revolutionary method of rejuvenation.

How Do PRP Injections Work?

Using PRP injections, your blood can aid in rejuvenation and healing. To complete this treatment, a West Michigan Plastic Surgery specialist will draw a small amount of blood (2-4 tablespoons) and place it in a centrifuge. The centrifuge machine separates the blood into layers, one of which is the platelet-rich plasma. The PRP is then placed in a syringe and injected into the face, under the eyes, or on the scalp.

PRP can also be used as a topical treatment to improve the effects and decrease the recovery time of microneedling treatments. This add on rejuvenates your skin by using your body’s natural ability to promote collagen production, heal scars, and brighten your complexion.

What are PRP Injections Like?

The Physician Assistants will evaluate your skin to determine the cause of aging around your eyes or your skin to determine the best course of action. PRP injections are administered using an extremely fine needle. You may feel a slight pinch, but it is mostly painless. The number of PRP injections you receive will depend on your personal goals and treatment plan.

You’ll be able to return to your usual routine immediately following your appointment.

While some meet their goals after one treatment, you may need three or more treatments to see ideal results. Most patients see final results a few weeks or months after their last treatment. Results can last up to 18 months.

Is There Any Downtime With PRP Injections?

There is little to no downtime needed with PRP injections. You may experience some swelling for a few days, but it is minimal. Most people feel comfortable returning to work the day after their injections.

The Physician Assistants recommend avoiding touching the injection site for 24 hours and avoiding taking aspirin to prevent any complications. It is best to avoid alcohol, exfoliation, and massaging the treatment area for 72 hours after your injections.

Am I A Good Candidate For PRP Injections?

Most people are good candidates for PRP injections. Since the treatment uses your own blood you have virtually no chance of allergic reaction. Boost your skin’s already existing collagen production with PRP injections.

PRP injections are not recommended for those with active acne, rosacea, lupus, or other autoimmune diseases. If you have a history of bleeding disorders or use blood-thinning medication, you may not be a good candidate for PRP injections. A consultation with a West Michigan Plastic Surgery specialist is the best way to determine if you are a good candidate for this treatment.
