While it is not often talked about, gynecomastia—a condition that causes an enlarged appearance of the male breasts—affects many men and can cause low self-esteem. Men who have feminine-like or fuller breasts due to gynecomastia may wonder about the best approach to get a sculpted chest, but they typically just try to hide their condition or solve it in the gym with little to no improvement. Dr. Scott Holley is ready to help men in Kalamazoo and the surrounding area achieve a taut and masculine chest with customized male breast reduction surgery.

Male breast reduction surgery will be personalized to your unique needs. A combination of liposuction to remove excess fat and excision to remove excess skin and tissue may be used to give you the upper body you envision for yourself.
Dr. Scott Holley understands that the breast reduction surgery process will look different for every man depending on his individualized needs and existing condition. During your initial consultation, Dr. Holley will discuss the various techniques of male breast reduction surgery that will help give you the great results you expect.
Any questions or concerns will be answered and his recommendations will be shared. Your current size, shape, and positioning of the nipples will be examined during your consultation. Dr. Holley wants all of his Michigan patients to be knowledgeable before undergoing any surgery, and so he will make sure you have all the available information to help make the best informed decision.
Male breast reduction will consist of liposuction, removal of excess skin, repositioning of the nipple or areola, or a combination of these. The specific steps of your personalized surgery will be decided during your initial consultation based on your individualized needs. Dr. Holley will administer general anesthesia or sedation prior to surgery to ensure optimal comfort.
If liposuction will be used, a cannula will be inserted through a small incision around the breast. Fatty tissue within the breast will then be suctioned through the cannula and removed from the body.
If excess skin or tissue needs to be removed, Dr. Holley will make incisions around the breasts and then remove the skin or breast tissue in that area.
Often times the nipple needs to be repositioned or the areola area needs to be reduced. Dr. Holley will reposition the nipple during this time of skin removal.
The incisions are then closed, and the skin is pulled tight to create a well-sculpted appearance of the chest.
Depending on your type of surgery, your recovery will look slightly different. To reduce swelling, bandages or dressings may be placed around the incision areas. Immediately after the surgery you may experience some bruising, swelling or redness in the surgery area. These symptoms will fade over the next 3-4 weeks.
You may return to work after 3-7 days depending on your discomfort level. Scarring may occur around the incision areas. Over the next 6-12 months, these scars often become more pale, soft, and less noticeable. You may resume light exercise one week after surgery and return to more strenuous exercise after four weeks.
You will begin to see results at 3-4 weeks once the swelling has decreased and your body has started to heal from the surgery. Your flatter, stronger-looking chest will be fully evident at about 4 to 6 months after surgery.
