Blepharoplasty Kalamazoo

If your eyes seem to be looking droopy and tired all the time, it may not be because you need more sleep. As you age, levels of collagen and elastin in your skin begin to diminish. Your skin gradually becomes more lax and you may become troubled by saggy skin around your eyes. Fortunately, you don’t have to sit back and suffer these signs of aging, you can remedy them with blepharoplasty.

How Blepharoplasty Works

Blepharoplasty, more simply known as eyelid surgery, is a common cosmetic surgery procedure that can take as little as an hour or as long as three hours, depending on what area or areas are being worked on. During blepharoplasty, Dr. Holley will remove excess skin and fat from around your eyes and eyelids. He can also tighten muscles to reshape your eyelids. If you are bothered by sagging or excess skin, blepharoplasty may be a great option for you.

How Long Does Blepharoplasty Last?

The results will typically last from anywhere between 5-7 years. Lower lid blepharoplasty rarely needs to be repeated. If you notice your eyelids begin to sag again over time, you may benefit from a brow lift rather than another eyelid surgery.

Am I A Good Candidate for Blepharoplasty?

If you are bothered by blepharoptosis, or eyelid drooping, due to muscle weakness, you are a good candidate for blepharoplasty. You can also benefit from blepharoplasty if you suffer from puffy eyes, heavy bags under your eyes, and excess skin or fat around the lids of your eyes. Dr. Holley will determine if eyelid surgery is the right choice for you by examining your skin, face, and eyelids during a personal consultation.

What is Eyelid Surgery Like?

Before your surgery, you will be given general anesthesia so you will feel no discomfort. Blepharoplasty is a relatively quick and painless procedure. Using specially designed instruments, Dr. Holley will precisely sculpt your eyelids according to their unique structure and shape. After the procedure, he will suture your surgical incisions and provide you with aftercare instructions.  A blepharoplasty can take as little as one hour or as long as three hours, depending on the condition of your eyelids and eyes.

Is There Downtime?

If blepharoplasty is performed to reduce undereye puffiness, you may be able to return home the same day as your procedure. However, blepharoplasty to remove puffy eyelids will require a few days of recovery time. It’s important that you follow Dr. Holley’s instructions so that your eyelid surgery results are long-lasting.

What Results Can I Expect?

After blepharoplasty, you can enjoy the look of smoother and more even-looking eyes. You will also look less tired and more alert. If Dr. Holley is performing blepharoplasty to remove bags under your eyes, you can expect those sagging skin areas to be lifted and tightened.* You’ll find it easier to apply makeup when blepharoplasty has been performed because you can ditch the concealer.
